June 30 - July 29, 2012 - In the Wheeler Gallery
Big Stone Arts Council Member Show Mixed Media The Wheeler Gallery, located within the Terrace Mill, will this year present a variety of works by more than 15 members of the Big Stone Arts Council. View the varying styles of these artists as they present color and black & white images of many sizes, subject matter and medium. Many pieces will be available for purchase. Visitors to the Terrace Mill will see a rare duck in the mill pond. This one never comes up for air. The feeding duck on the Chippewa River is actually a water sculpture entitled “Dabbling Duck” by Douglas Holtquist. This July, the Terrace Mill Wheeler Gallery is featuring a multimedia art exhibit by members of the Big Stone Arts Council. In addition to the “Dabbling Duck” in the mill pond, there will be another piece of outdoor sculpture which is a diamond etched and colorized granite piece by Liz Rackl. Some of the art will also be displayed on the ground floor for those who don’t wish to make the climb to the third floor Wheeler Gallery. More than fifteen artists will be represented with works in pastels, acrylics, watercolor, ink, photography, granite, sculpture, wood carvings, stone mosaics and fiber art. “We welcome the sharing of resources with arts organizations and encourage others to participate in future exhibits at the mill,” stated Richard Grella, President of the Terrace Mill Foundation. “We are grateful for the generous funding granted by the Lake Region Arts Council that enabled the mill foundation to update the gallery into the spectacular exhibit space that it now is.” The Big Stone Arts Council is a non-profit organization established in 1997 that includes members from Eastern South Dakota as well as the Western Minnesota areas of Big Stone Lake. Several of the artists participated in last summer’s Wheeler Gallery exhibit. One of the artists was Deb Larson who has entered “Gigi,” an acrylic portrait of her mother for this exhibit. “I was very impressed with the diversity and quality of their art and proposed that BSAC be invited to mount an exhibit this summer,” said Jeff Thornton, Artistic Director of the Terrace Mill Foundation. For more on the Big Stone Arts Council - check out their website at: bigstonearts.com Show open during museum hours |

July, 2012 - 13th Annual Children's Musical Theatre
Children's Musical Theatre Workshop
I July 8-17, 2012 (This TMF Children's Theater workshop is sponsored in part by Chippewa Falls Township, Tastefully Simple and Lake Region Arts Council) Workshop and Production. For youth ages 8 and up. Prepare to be highly entertained by the menagerie of voices in poor Aesop’s head. The resentful Fox, the egomaniac Hare, the sluggish Tortoise, the zen-like Grasshopper and the Aunt (yes, his mother’s sister!) and more come to life as hysterical characters onstage that only Aesop (and the audience,) can see and hear. With his mind crowded with all these big personalities, Aesop can hardly think straight. The only way to peace of mind and freedom is to let out the characters and share them with the world. Contact Director, Julie Lloyd for registration info at: 320-268-3394, Email dramamama@tds.net Registration Fee : $50 Please bring: bag lunch, water bottle, sunscreen and/or umbrella, insect repellant and sturdy shoes. Sandals should have a heel strap - no flip-flops, please! |

August, 2012 - 13th Annual Children's Musical Theatre
Children's Musical Theatre Workshop
II August 11-21, 2012 (This TMF Children's Theater workshop is sponsored in part by Chippewa Falls Township, Tastefully Simple and Lake Region Arts Council) Workshop and Production. For youth ages 8-18. Gangway, Pirates of the Caribbean, here come The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree! When his crew jumps ship upon sighting the pirates in the distance, Captain Jennings is left with a makeshift crew of motley prisoners and Fergus, a sailor who can't swim, to protect his wealthy passengers, the Prescots, from the inevitable attack. As the lady pirates take over the defenseless Kayla May, you're in for swashbuckling musical comedy with a host of hysterical characters on deck and a spectacular Bill Francoeur score. Along with Captain Bree' hearty crew of mean and nasty mates (and a couple of new recruits in training who keep forgetting to be rough and tough), you'll find the haughty Professor Bidwell and the pretentious Madam Prescot, constantly battling for special treatment and respect (ha!) from the pirates; Samuel Prescot, masquerading as a girl to avoid becoming shark bait; and Julia Prescot, bursting with desire to join the lady pirates much to her aunt's dismay! A spirited play full of catchy tunes by Bill Francoeur! Great music and lots of fun characters for boys and girls! |

SATURDAY, August 18, 2012 - Annual Heritage Festival
Bluegrass Heritage Festival Saturday, August 18, 2012 Enjoy an evening on the Chippewa River Mill Pond while listening to the very special, intimate acoustic music of the High 48's at the Terrace Mill! Great musicianship and harmonies! The High 48's are:
Rich Casey: bass and vocals; Eric Christopher: fiddle and vocals; Anthony Ihrig: banjo; Chad Johnson: mandolin and vocals; Marty Marrone: guitar and vocals. High 48's Trivia: Where did they get their name? The short answer is they are named after a boxcar called a 48, or a 40/8, which was named for its carrying capacity: 40 men or 8 horses. These cars were used during World War I to transport troops and materiel to the front lines. After the war, as a gesture of gratitude and good will, France made a gift of these boxcars to the US, one for each state. For more on the High 48's and to listen to some of their music, visit their website! Mill 320-278-3728 |
